Well, the explosive conclusion to our rather special 40th Anniversary audio adventure Dominion is now at last on-line, and awaiting a visit from your download manager of choice. When we left the Doctor and Guy, it had been revealed to us that the TARDIS had been over-taken by the Dalek Emporer, and the Daleks were poised to invade all of time and space. With the Doctor battling an identity crisis, Guy facing extermination at the hands of a Dalek assault squad, and the TARDIS lost for all eternity, can the Doctor and Guy devise a way that will enable them to win this battle against the evil of the Daleks, or will the price be too high? After this adventure, it is true to say that nothing will ever be the same again! Feel free to vote in the below poll to register a quiick anonymous vote, or reply to this message to join in the discussion with members of the cast & crew! Enjoy!

Wow! What an episode! The near 40 minute running time just flew by. Everything seemed perfect - great acting from Matthew, Kane, Witold & Arthur, terrific post-prod (especially on those Dalek voices) and some real high-drama and shocks. Now I'm just desperate to know what happens next!

Quote: Thanks Morgan! Am really pleased you enjoyed it, but am worried that you didn't even find one tiny little fault in it - I can spot dozens, but then again that might just be me as Mr Picky Director! Quote: Thanks! The casting for this particular serial was pretty much pre-determined by the characters it features, but even still I was pleased with the final product, as everyone involved really gave it their all! Quote: Again, thanks! I spent quite a lot of time on this particular episode, but the biggest challenge for me was the attack on the Dalek city on New Skaro. Those battle sequences took me at least 2 weeks on their own, because I wanted to get them just right! Thankfully, I pretty much got there. Although there are still a few problems with it, I am more than pleased with what we released! Oh, and for the record, a big thank you to Alistair Lock and Nick Briggs for their assistance in getting the Dalek modulation totally correct! The day I received that e-mail from Alistair telling me that I'd replicated Nick's settings perfectly was one of the best days in my life! Quote: I really like the writing partnership of Witold and Darran - expect big things from this writing team in our semi-pro line! Quote: Well, I am off to work now, but when I get home tonight I plan on updating the BTR web site with the final update for the 40th Anniversary week - this time, its a new short film which literally takes place after that last scene with the Doctor and Guy in the TARDIS. Aside from wrapping up the loose ends from Dominion, it also brings to the fore a new story arc we've been brewing away now for a few years... |

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed part two.
The acting was marvelous and the post production was great. Although things got a little jumbled in the battle between the Chronovores and Daleks but I suspect that was intentional. I'm still amazed at the modulation of the Dalek voices, it was incredible! I very much look forward to your future releases. Ciao! Aurora |

Quote: Hehehe - that was the effect we wanted to create. To have people longing for a third episode, which would draw them into later stories in the season, where things really start to heat up! Quote: Yep - I was totally amazed by the work I did, and I truly mean that. Whenever I start a new story, I am always scared I won't be able to pull off what's required. However, this script I was so pleased that I managed to pull off some rather challenging effects sequences. Quote: Me too, Aurora - me too! |

"Yes, the link that is labelled A Quiet Beach Somewhere is for the film. The rest of the links (trailer, part 1, part 2, doco 1, doco 2) are all related to Dominion. "
Except that the title "Dominion" is not actually displayed on the front page... Robbie |

Rob,
Quote: OK - so you've got me there, but only on a mere technicality! The reason the story title isn't mentioned anywhere is simply because I ran out of room! Quote: Cooly! I look forward to reading any comments and/or reviews you may or may not wish to post on this forum! |

this episode was another very good effort. i agree with morgan that the length totally flew by, and the big dalek speeches, which worked so well on paper, astonishingly sounded just fine in the production!
actually, it was something of a joy to listen to this episode for one particular reason: the actors involved breathed such tremendous life into it that i found the story itself much more enjoyable (and a little easier to absorb) here than when editing the scripts. the major demerit: me. as much as i feel i faithfully recreated the role of thomas caldwell, the entire performance still irks me so much that i find it difficult to listen to. generally good work from everyone else, though, especially david. you are the lord high chronovore! <!--EZCODE ITALIC START---<em>nothing is certain. maybe.</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END---

Hi Witold,
I thought your performance as Thomas wasn't too bad. a little whiney, and almost similar to a male version of Peri, which is what I thought the original character was based on. But I thought you sounded quite good. David was brilliant, I thought he was very strong. I think Matt was a little whiney to be honest in some parts, but that's my ownly complaint, but it was very minor. Cheers Scott. |

Well what can I say.
That was a damn fine story! I really loved what you did with this story. The Doctor having to more or less kill his oldest friend and companion. The very soul of the TARDIS itself. All the while having to face up against sins of his own past. The Dalek voices were perfect. The story was great and leaves me wondering what you plan to do in the future. With the essence of the TARDIS more or less dead (Or perhaps just empty now) I look forward to what you have in mind for your next audio and how this will effect the future of the Doctor's journeys. Very good guys. I give this a 10 out of 10. Take care Eric |

Yeah, David is cool | ||

David really is great as the High Lord Chronovore isn't he. Great to hear the character again as he was equally great in the role in Ouroborus Heart. The man can make even small supporting roles oh so memorable. Nothing will ever top his Professor Tango for me though. Superb!!
All the best Darran |

It was a very good story. Well worth the wait. I think that the trailer didn't really give us a good idea on how well this story was going to go.
Like the way it ended. Not it makes us want the next story to come on line and see if it straightens out anything from this one. WTG Guys! The Core-Man |

WOW! Love the cover are for Dominion.
Who did this cover. It's the BEST one out there. The quality of it reminds me of the "Clayton Hickman" covers for the Big Finish series! Thanks, The Core-Man |

Re: Dominion Cover Art | ||
Quote: given the way i edit scripts, the way darran keeps surprising me with great concepts, and the way the story order has shuffled around this season, don't expect too many answers. a symmetry with "quiet beach" will become apparent in parts of darran's "marinus alone" (4th this season), though this might raise more questions than answers. nevertheless, "quiet beach" has essentially addressed all that needs to be addressed on the subject of the tardis. the concept was more of a reset switch than a cliffhanger. but the doctor's character has been substantially rocked by this change, and that will certainly be reflected in how he interacts with others, as he is now understandably more alone than before. but this was certainly never meant to be the start of a story arc -- just the start of a bit of continuity. we've already got enough story arcs coming out the wahzoo that we don't need yet one more! unless you mean the big dalek finale in the last scene, in which case the follow-up has already been produced, and as a 150-minute tv adventure, too. it's called "the chase". |

First off, first class audio design by Matt. This sounds like a very glossy, big budget adventure with excellent quality voices, effects and Dalek voices. The theme music sounds particularly impressive this time. I just got confused during the road scene, because I was listening in the car and I couldn't quite make out if there was traffic or a battle going on in the background. I think that was down to my headphones though.
There seems to have been a trend for 'Doctor and companion wander around a fantasy world' in audio DW lately. Zagraeus, the forthcoming Fractures by Quantum Realities, Fine Line's own Walkabout and this one all feature realms of changing backgrounds and working out clues. The danger with this format is that the tail can start wagging the dog and the plot takes a backseat to yet more colourful incident. And truth be told this episode does drag in places, especially since the Doctor and Guy don't seem to be too alarmed by what's going on until the Doctor is knocked down. A fair ammount happens but since most of it is an illusion to distract the Doctor, the plot doesn't move forward much. The Doctor's angst about his actions seems surprising since "Second Sight" was fairly non-traumatic by BTR standards. But I suspect that it has a long building concern that is triggered by a seemingly innocuous event, rather like a person who seems to cope well with the death of a spouse and then breaks down after the death of their budgie. Unfortunately this season seems to be proving that Guy has outlived his usefulness. His underlying smugness and smart-alec quality is now becoming his defining trait. Whilst there is nothing intrinsicaly wrong with his advice to the Doctor, his manner left me itching for the Doctor to pull rank on the whipper-snapper and cut across his waffle with a devastating put-down. Their relationship is now too equal and it is reducing the Doctor's alienness. The fact that Guy fancies meddling with the sonic screwdriver and the Doctor casually lets him, seems symptomatic of the problem. The cliffhanger is certainly a surprise and an ingenious idea by Darren Jordan. Certainly made me glad that episode two was only a click away. Re: Dominion | ||

First off, Gareth, you've got your reviews the wrong way around! The reviews are in the wrong threads!
Quote: Thanks for the generous praise about my sound design! I know I really did work many hours into ensuring that the sound design was as detailed as it could possibly be - scenes such as the road and rivers have no less than 7-8 SFX tracks in them, and I think it shows. On this story I set myself a new benchmark, and so expect similarly detailed soundscapes on all future productions I do for BTR and others. Quote: Yes, having heard Zagreus just last week I agree that it's interesting both Dominion and it had very similar thematic and script ideas. Although am not sure what you mean about our heroes not sounding too alarmed about what's going on around them. As Director, I pretty much took the line that they've both seen so much in their time, that it really takes a lot to phase them - for Guy, the possible death of the Doctor is what does it for him, and for the Doctor, well, you find out in Part Two... Quote: You've pretty much hit the nail on the head there, Gareth. At the time, the events with General Courtenay weren't that traumatic for the Doctor, simply because the Doctor was caught up in all the rush of foiling the Auton's plans. However, the second he has a moment for quiet reflection, it suddenly hits him - especially when he realises it's tied into the Prophecy the Watcher told him "off screen" during The Ouroborous Heart, and said Prophecy was the one the Informed Man referred to in Weary Death. Essentially, the Doctor knows some bad shit's about to happen to him, and the events of Second Sight (and subsequently Dominion) are the massive triggers for some radical changes to his character. Confused yet? Quote: Well, I agree that the character of Guy is starting to get a little long in the tooth, but that's because we've had just him and the Doctor relating in their particular way for over a season now. Rest assured we're fully aware of this, and plan on shaking things up quite a bit this season, and then certainly next season. Quote: Yes, well, just imagine what it was like for people listening to it at the time of release - they had to wait a whole week to find out what happened next! I lost count of the number of "complaint" e-mails I received that week! |
