Present, Past, & Future Danger (Part 2) |
Lead | |
|
Despite being delayed by an entire fortnight (a situation we cannot apologise enough for, so we shan't even try), we are finally pleased to announce that Part Two of our latest Doctor Who audio adventure is now freely available to download in the wonderful Ogg Vorbis format. The main reason why this particular episode was delayed was two-fold - the nature of the recording for this story meant Aurora McPherson had quite a lot of extra work to perform to ensure the final result sounded in any way half-decent, but also the original release date came smack bang in the middle of my work assessing Drama students for end-of-term units of work. So, I had no time to perform the final mixdown. Anyway, it's all done now, and we'd dearly like to receive some feedback from everyone about what they thought of this new episode. Feel free to vote in the below poll, or reply to this message and leave us a review!

It's not incomplete, Runcie - your download has just stuffed up, which means you don't have all the file. I recommend you get your hands on a decent download manager (Fresh Download @ www.freshdevices.com is arguably the best) and use that to download files off the Internet in future, especially if you are on a dialup connection.
I've checked the file, and it's all there, and downloads fine (with a download manager, just to be safe), and I've just been told that Aurora has also managed to download the file without any problems as well. |

I voted 'above average'. Although the script was intriguing and the performances all good, I thought the post-production was a bit wonky (often drowning out the dialogue, I completely missed the whole bit with Guy killing the monsters, and the bit where Cassandra falls down a hole, or something) and a couple of Trell's lines were a bit distorted. Overall though, still pretty good, just not up to BTR's usual standard, which, after the extra wait, is a shame.

Hey not bad guys. I like how this is shaping up. I love Trell, there is just something about his voice. I quite like it. But Illyana acting just steals the show. Those heart felt meows come in at just the right time
The relation between Cassandra and Charley kind of reminds me of Gary 7 and his cat Isis in the Classic Star Trek episode Assignment Earth. Peace Eric L. Busby

Quote:Okay, I've got the whole thing now. Funny, isn't it, that we have to put so many programs on our computers -- anti-virus, firewalls, download managers, tweaks, diagnostic tools, etc. -- at this rate, I won't have any hard drive space left for files! And yet Europe expects Microsoft to provide stripped-down versions of Windows! hehehe "You've just seen history!" |

Hey All,
Just to be on the safe side, I'm going to include a S P O I L E R S P A C E I downloaded this on the weekend, and while I think that the post prod wasn't too bad (seeing from the details listed on the site, there was a lot that had to go into it) the story isn't really grabbing my attention. Part 2 seems to suffer again from the 'look over there to the right, it's a big, really big black thing' which again detracts from the story. It's like trying to describe it for a audio audience which is something which isn't usually done by BTR. The professor is beginning to grate on me, specially with charlie the cat. Talking to the cat doesn't seem to gel for me, as it seems the cat fx, were added on at a later stage. (Which I would assume that they would be, I don't think there would have been a live cat on stage at the same time!) Trell again seems to be a little flat, and Cassandra doesn't seem as lively as she did in the first episode. Although there were some nice exchanges between her and Guy. I thought Guy was again quite strong in this ep, apart from when he was describing things that were big, really big. (Sorry, I thought this line was a little silly.) The cliff hanger, although more spaced out then the previous episode, didn't really work for me, and I have to say that I prefered part ones. Also, it could have been that I wasn't giving the ep my full concentration, but I thought originally it was a timewyrm, not a time rift, so that was a bit of a worry. I have to say, while I'm interested to see what happens in part 3, I can say that I'm happy to wait for however long it takes. Sorry guys, Rating 2/5 (Just below average) Cheers Scott |

your apologies are unnecessary (if polite), as that was a pretty good review, and of course the sort of thing we're looking for.
it's a shame you didn't enjoy the ep, scott, but do keep listening and let us know what you think of the serial as a whole. i know that from my perspective the serial's quality (and intensity) is sort of stacked in favour of the end, so the final ep will certainly be one to listen out for. actually, i'd have liked things spaced out a bit better myself, but unfortunately there was a slight last-minute rush on the scripts, so there wasn't as much time as usual to perfect them. you seem to disagree, but i felt that much of the dialogue helped carry the weaker parts of the story, so i was content to leave things be to a certain extent in the editing. mind you, i now also feel that the performances do an equally good job of carrying certain sections, so obviously it's just a matter of taste. timewyrm? i think you must've lost concentration, as you suggest. dunno where you got that from! anyway, thanks for the review, and we hope you find part 3 to be more enjoyable -- just remember that act two is usually the lull area in a story anyway. btw, given your rating, can i safely assume you didn't vote? nothing is certain. maybe.

Nope, didn't vote, I went with what I said. I can vote if reqd, but I thought that'd be a little silly.
I'll download pt3, and go from there. (I think this is the first story in a long time, I've actually reviewed!) Cheers Scott. |

Finally had a chance to listen to this instalment, and overall it left me a bit flat.
It of course suffers from the "middle episode" syndrome - after the excitement of the first part the middle episode usually always drags as we head towards the inevitable exciting conclusion. Just a few small things: Trell's voice seemed a bit distorted in some scenes (most noticeably during the lab scenes (or whatever that room was near the lab they went to to scan for stuff) The sense of urgency in the voices of Guy and Cassandra didn't seem to be there when they were getting attacked by all and sundry - I never got a sense that they were doing anything other than reading from scripts. I had expected them to be a bit more urgent in their delivery, considering the circumstances. I loved the use of the extended silences between the scenes. But you ruined it at the end of the episode by having a "one scene finishing another scenes sentence" quick cut - it went against the style of transition you had built up so well in the rest of the episode. I could hear what you were trying to achieve stylistically but it just jarred for me. The scene at the end with Cassandra jumping through the *insert name of spatial anamoly here* seemed a bit rushed and incoherent. I am sure Part 3 will bring it all together though. Trev. |

Trev,
Hi - thanks for the in-depth review of Part Two! Nice to know you finally managed to get around to listening to the episode, and then taking the time out to review it! If I may just address one or two points you raise in your review...? Quote: Yes, I noticed this as well. I suspect it was down to Aurora and Boris both being recorded at the same time, and Aurora having a softer voice - meant Boris dominated quite a bit simply because we had to ensure we could hear Aurora! Quote: I understand what you referring to in your final comment (the one about the quick cut), but I was wondering if it would be possible for you to explain what you meant by "extended silences between the scenes"? This episode employs our usual tactic - use transitional incidental music between scenes, and given the music was at a moderate volume, I can't say it could be mistaken for silence. Quote: Really? Am a bit unsure of what you mean here, so once again could I ask for you to elaborate on what you meant, just so I have a full understanding of what you mean? Quote: Well, given it's the final episode, I should like to think so too! We do have a new story to lurch into shortly! |

matt,
it's a shame you deleted my post in response to trevor's review when you moved his post, as only the briefest aside referred to the misplaced post and the rest was as valid a response as your own. i don't suppose there's any chance you've backed it up anywhere, is there? nothing is certain. maybe.
