Yes, that's right folks. We've got a brand new video documentary available to download from our Ampcast site. This time, the video doco details the recording session for the fourth of BTR's Beyond Traditional Recognition original semi-pro sci-fi anthology titles, entitled The Alien Factor, and written by Witold Tietze. The video doco in question takes you into the recording studio itself, and records candid glimpses into the work done by the various actors employed on the day, as well as the directorial work by Witold Tietze. Containing glimpses into the storyline itself, this documentary is not to be missed! Once you have watched it, we'd dearly like to hear some thoughts about the download. Feel free to vote in the below poll to register a quick and anonymous vote, or simply reply to this message to join in the discussion with members of the cast & crew!

A very nice documentary. Interesting to see exactly how BTR record their audio dramas, and the visual trailer was a nice, if unusual, touch. My only complaint is that, at just 10 minutes, the doco was a little short.

Morgan,
Quote: Thanks for the nice comment! Am pleased you enjoyed it! Quote: The visual trailer was my idea - it was inspired by those found on the Tomorrow People DVDs for the BFP audio CDs. Oh, and one thing I should point out is that we've improved and refined our recording techniques since this doco. Quote: Yeah, it was a little shorter than I was hoping for, but you can only do so much with available footage. |

One quick question, will the 'Recording Ice' documentary be available any time soon?

Morgan,
Quote: Yes - I am hoping to get that uploaded next weekend. I just have to: A - Locate the MPEG-1 master copy B - Encode it as a DivX file (which will be 2-3 hours of work) Once those two criteria have been met, I will be releasing it. I hope to find the CD-R with the file on it at some stage today, and I will encode the file overnight this week while I sleep. |

post 700 -- finally! thought i'd never make it.
Quote: albeit one which was decided upon when i mentioned that the doco was exactly 8'30" long, at which point matt thought it would be a nice idea to stick a visual trailer on the end and thus bring it to 10' exactly. which the master copy is, to the frame. and i have to say, it was a nice idea. i had a lot of fun cutting the trailer together, and i like that i was able to open it with synced up moving footage. Quote: well, since the doco was filmed. it was only edited a few weeks ago, and we've obviously not improved too much since then. Quote: if i may speak on behalf of our documentarian, kathryn fallon, a couple of factors (no pun intended) stood in the way of a longer piece. the first was the cramped environment, which we were using for the first time, which didn't allow for much in the way of decent coverage. (before anyone shouts that we should've had an efficient first 1.d. or some other completely irrelevant guff, it was a fly on the wall piece and it was pretty counterproductive to set up the entire recording room on an earlier day just so the camera operator could have a quick look.) secondly, we were trying to run a very tight ship that day, so there wasn't much room for a lot beyond actually recording scenes. third, i think kath's arm got very tired by about the halfway point, as there wasn't really anywhere to set up conveniently in the room. it's worth noting that we got a lot of after party material, which would've been an excellent representation of the social side of btr, but unfortunately the radio was on and we can't afford to clear the use of any britney spears songs, nor would we want to hand any obscene amounts of money over to her representatives. Quote: i hope you find it, because the master you have, and which has always been available in the past, is somewhat different from the master i've kept. (software glitches, unfortunately.) mind you, if you need another master run off, i can happily post one up, and at least it'll have an actual copyright logo on it instead of a "c" in parentheses. nothing is certain. maybe.

Witold,
Quote: Actually, from what I understand, we could have easily used the footage with the radio on in the background, given the non-profit educational nature of the programme itself. I think it's only when any kind of profit or request for money is being made that you have to actually clear any copyrights. Quote: Don't worry - I do have it. It's just in a CD container with all my other BTR CD-Rs, and I just have to go through over 60 individual CDs and look for the one which has "Recording 'Ice' documentary" written on it in felt tip pen. Once that's done, I can start encoding the DivX file. |
