2004 and Soldiers of Love concludes?? |
Lead | |
|
Just to say 'Happy 2004' to all MJTV customers! Hope you've all enjoyed SOL13 and the revelations! After 5 years, 2004 will see the release in May of the FINAL installment - 'Blood Ties' - but will it be a happy ending for the Soldiers of Love?

Wow! I hadn't realised there was going to be anymore. I recently bought numbers 9 to 13 to complete my collection although I've only listened upto number 7 so far. I've really enjoyed the series. I am particular fan of the Doctor Who & Blake 7 actors but I think all of those involved are fantastic. A special mention must also go to Anna Karen who is superb as Cilla (Norman Lovett was a hard act to follow!)who I spotted in the film "Beautiful Thing" from 1995 which I saw for the first time last year.

The 14 episodes of Soldiers of Love
|
Hi Richard
Thanks for your words on SOL, glad you're enjoying the series! There are 14 episodes in this series, which will round up all the current storylines. I'm not saying how it ends which may spoil any surprises! There is potential to produce a second season of 6 stories, but that depends on a number of factors, such as sales in 2004/2005, MJTV's workload (as CD production is just a sideline). For your information Anna is most famous for her role as 'Olive' in 'On The Buses' she was also 'Aunt Sal' in 'Eastenders' for a while! Remember, tell you friends and spread the word of 'Soldiers of Love'! |

Aunt Sal! Of course I knew I'd seen her in something else! But I've never seen On the Buses as it was on before I was born.
Anyway when it does come out I shall make sure "Blood Ties" gets full coverage in Celestial Toyroom. |

I only just remember 'On The Buses' and I think that was mainly repeats! So are you a reported for 'Celestial Toyroom'?

I write for articles for CT intermittently although am trying to do so more regularly. I am also well acquainted with the news column writer who tells me he attended one of your recordings (in fact I think he showed me a photo of The Brig/Turnidus)

That would be David Bickerstaff. He also appears in CD 11 - 'Sting In The Tale'!

No the person I was referring to was not David Bickerstaff although that would be the recording session I was referring to as I was told that he was present.
Anyway the person I was referring to was Chuck Foster. |

Re: The 14 episodes of Soldiers of Love

Ah yes, Chuck Foster! I didn't really have a chance to speak to Chuck as it was such an exceptionally busy recording day, doing Turnidus' scenes for SOL 10/11/12. Chuck sat in the engineer's booth and listened to proceedings, and I think was confused, as he hadnt heard any SOL, and recording was done out of sequence! But he said he enjoyed what he heard. I've only met David once, at that recording, and again didnt have much opportunity to speak to him, as being producer/director, the day is always chaotic for me, especially with about 10 actors to deal with. David played one character in one scene (man from crowd!). I don't really know him beyond that.
Rest assured you'd be very welcome to come and chat if you wish to do an article on SOL for CT, just let me know. |

I apologise for my diatribe last night. I'd had a couple of drinks
I will definitely take you up on that offer of a chat for a future article. Thanks. Right now I'd better go and rest my head... |

Until I've heard the the final episode it's going to very difficult to say for definite but in theory if it has mostly the same cast including the guest stars then I'm sure it'd be a great fun to carry on.

I would love a 2nd series of the Soldiers of Love, i've really enjoyed the series and think there is still alot life in the series.
Perhaps as a storyline you could have the crew go on some sort of treasure hunt (Perhaps one the relics of Ranulf) with Arran (if he's still alive) trying to find the treasure before them. Paul |

A second series would be great. I agree that you would need some of the current characters/actors, and if any new characters were introduced they would need to be given time to develop - I say this as it took me some time to get used to all the new characters who were introduced in Soldiers of Love cd 2 (Frag, Teddy, Jadra etc).

Thanks for the replies.
I hope Richard continues to enjoy the series and hears it developing! Certainly it 'settles down more' from CD10 (in that we follow just the crew) which I think works better. Paul - You'll be pleased to know that Actor Speaks 4 has a new Soldiers of Love segment on it 'The Myth Makers'- a 20 minute play following what happens on Voltarabia and it does involve the relics of Ranulf. Paul Darrow plays reporter Croo Nybin, a worried Gulgolin appears as does Peter Miles (but I'm not saying as who!!!) and one other SOL regular makes a cameo appearance... If a second series did occur there would be no new characters, just a continuation of those that "survive" the end of Season One - and who knows it may be a happy ending.......but then again........ |
