missed that bit where you asked for the three faves.

now, bearing in mind i'm still only halfway through the rapture, here's my list:

1. the fearmonger. still my only 10/10 from bfp.
2. the chimes of midnight. why can't the other bfp writers produce dialogue the way shearman does? plus, it's the only halfway decent entry in the second mcgann season, and the only one that didn't choose to thump listeners over the head with its take on time gone askew. if there's a grey area between 9/10 and 10/10, this story exists within it.
3. this is a toughie. there are a few contenders that score about equally: very good, but with some flaws. the marian conspiracy used to be a favourite until i listened to it a second time. it's still good, but not as surprisingly brilliant. (must've been the context of having just waded through about a dozen crap releases at the time.) storm warning is also high on my list, but i've only listened of most of it the once. my only complaint with it was that the entire second half of part 4 (once they get back to the airship) should've been chopped right out. oh, and get rid of that stupid vortexian pet whose name escapes me for the moment. what else is a 9/10 cadidate...? the holy terror, definitely. looks like shearman is scoring high today. bloodtide was surprisingly good as well, and quite a standout as an otherwise unexpectional production (i.e. it's not a "special" one) that turned out to be exceptional.

anyway, i'm glad you didn't get us to list our least favourite releases, as i'd be here all week coming up with contenders!

given that i know how nasty an allergic sneezing fit can be, this is fair enough. but if ever you score a decent nasal decongestant, i say go for it.

structurally, yes, but i felt it was extremely different in tone and somewhat in style. plus it had way better dialogue.

actually, i prefer frobisher to charley by miles, as at least frobisher doesn't have that post-ace "whiny girl with a complex" thing about him! can't really sort a winner between mcgann and baker, though at least the latter has grown as a performer during his time as the doctor.

i've found that having fun with dialogue is the key. btr's fortitude in a slipstream, which is a historical in all but setting, i think benefitted greatly (at least in the writing) from my use of blank verse throughout, and all that lacing with metaphor that i achieved. red brigade, a genuine historical i was developing for our third season, also had the advantage of a solid murder mystery plot and plenty of political wrangling to get it going, but even then i found it difficult to maintain the length i needed with the minimal number of characters the production could manage, so i again resorted to heightening the dialogue, turning it into a sort of "mamet meets chekov" experience! now that i re-read the half episode i wrote, i start to regret having dropped it from our run!

it's very worth it. really good atmospheric sound, an interesting story, and a fine showcase for baker and stables. plus, miles richardson as charles darwin! (hell, any member of the richardson family as anyone!)
