this is a reply to a post matthew made in the "countdown" thread the other day. as i have a handful of responses to make to it, and i presumably am still entitled to my right of reply, i am not shirking from posting this. however, as i do not wish to be banned from this forum, i am adhering to his wish that no more o/t posts be made there (even if they carry an "o/t" warning, presumably), so i'm doing the incredibly silly thing of replying in the general discussion forum, where anyone is entitled to post anything, so long as they're polite.
i apologise deeply and humbly to anyone who feels this geographical move is an odd one, but there's sadly not a lot i can do. still, i suppose if anyone else wishes to carry on this now general discussion in this thread, then they are more than welcome to do so, provided they adhere to matthew's requests as sys admin, as outlined in the "countdown" thread.
if you're in any way referring to my (count them) two posts when you say "as this thread shows", then that hardly compares. i apologise if i've unintentionally incited anyone to follow my lead to ludicrous extremes, but then i didn't think i was being excessive -- particularly in light of your own precedent for wasting a whole post on "this is the forum's 1000th post".
then switch off the reminders? i note that cost has been mentioned as an issue, which is fair enough, but surely it's easier to digest a handful of medium-length posts than one which takes a whole page on its own.
of course, i agree if you're referring to a point-by-point division, which does seem a bit silly.
you appear to be forgetting the indirect donation i made to the board earlier this year by becoming an ezboard supporter. to be fair, i'm not sure how much that contributes to this specific board, but i would hope it contributes something, else my next donation will be straight to the btr kitty.

While I am at it, I will not tolerate anyone postings stupid messages simply to get their message counter up. I have just spent 10 minutes deleting a series of one-letter postings from one user who was clearly attempting to do just this. This "increase my counter by posting silly messages) is not an isolated incident, as this thread shows.

This also includes people making 4-5 posts in quick succession to reply to a variety of multiple messages. Please integrate your responses to minimise the number of replies you make. I am probably not the only person who's sick and tired of waking up each morning and finding nearly a dozen reminder emails telling me this thread has been replied to.

In summary, as I am the only person who finances this board (aside from a recent wonderful donation from Mr Gareth Preston)

nothing is certain. maybe.
